Picture a grain of brown rice with wings . . .
flapping and fluttering like a butterfly. That, my friends, is a Flapping Dingbat (Gastropteron chacmol). Occasionally it settles to the bottom, wraps its wings in overlapping on top, and crawls along like other sea slugs. When it did, I managed the photo below. Not one of my best, but these things are tiny and they are fast. I have no idea how Carl even spotted it. With the naked eye, it looked like a dark grain of sand, albeit a grain of sand that was moving against the current. The image at right shows it as I saw it magnified by my lens 1.4X.
