A well traveled pineapple
. . . is very delicious.
When we visited New Jersey in September of 2024, our friend, Tony, sent us home with a pineapple plant he had started. He knew he would not bring it indoors for the winter and figured its days were numbered. So, he thought it had a better chance with us. We dutifully found a sunny spot for it at each subsequent campsite and arrived back in Florida with a nice looking pineapple plant. We repotted it and placed it in a sunny spot in the garden.
Fast forward to August 2025. As we headed out for our 6 week camping adventure, Tony’s plant was happily producing a pineapple in our back yard (photo at right).
We arrived back at the beginning of October to a larger, but not yet ripe fruit. My pineapple advisor, Janice, said it needed to be more yellow. We waited patiently. At the beginning of November we left for two weeks in Bonaire leaving behind a still brown pineapple.
Make it stand out
Apparently that was the two weeks it needed. When we returned home we had a wonderfully golden pineapple ready to be picked. Picked at the peak of perfection. Boy was it good!
Thank you Tony!
Conditions have finally improved at Blue Heron Bridge, so we are back to diving in Florida. A few of my favorites from this week underwater. The juveniles are all 1” or less and the Spotted Trunkfish juvie is uncommon (nice spotting, Will). It is also the first time I have seen Lookdowns at the bridge.
