Say ahhhh!
I am not sure if this little Brown Water Snake was exercising his jaw, cooling off, or tasting the air, but he was way more animated than the larger snake he was sitting on. This guy was very small - about the thickness of my thumb. His companion was a much larger version of the same species. While the little guy was moving all around, the big guy just sat there enjoying the sun at Indian Riverside Park.
Common Parakeet
No, we did not get a new pet. This Common Parakeet/Budgie showed up in our yard this week and has staked claim to the birdhouse. He has fought off any bird, squirrel or lizard that gets close. We put the house up as decoration (nothing that small nests around here), but he seems to think it is just perfect. He comes and goes showing up multiple times each day. These birds are very popular in the pet trade, so he could be an escapee, but there are also established feral populations. According to Wikipedia they live an average of 8 years. Hopefully he has a mate and will move in come nesting season. In the meantime, while he is enjoying the feeders, we are enjoying him.
