I am not sure why . . .

but I just love this picture of a Green Heron that I took while biking around the ‘hood this week. It is the first time I have seen one at our local park. I have taken hundreds of photos of Green Herons, but this one might be my all time favorite. Fun fact: The Green Heron is one of the world’s few tool-using bird species. It often creates fishing lures with bread crusts, insects, and feathers, dropping them on the surface of the water to entice small fish.(According to Cornell Labs/All About Birds ).

It was a relatively quiet week around here, both above and below the water, but I still managed to find a few interesting critters. We also made a quick trip across the state to visit our friends Kathy & Charlie for a day. The visit included a trip to Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve in Fort Myers. Nice and shady, but still hot this time of year.
