All creatures great and small.
We see critters of all sizes at Blue Heron Bridge, but the underwater camera set up I use is designed for photographing small creatures. So, when a Goliath Grouper (4’ plus) crosses my path I am woefully unequipped to capture the moment. Still, you gotta try. While not a stellar photo (and with lots of help from Lightroom), I was thrilled to get anything at all. In comparison, the Felimida Binza nudibranch was just the right size.
The male jawfish holds the fertilized eggs in his mouth until they hatch. Periodically he spits them out and sucks them back in to aerate them. If you look closely (click on the image in the gallery below), you can see two eyes in each egg.
Dusky Jawfish (Opistognathus whitehursti), Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach, Florida.
A few more images from this week around the ‘hood. This is the first time I have seen a Queen Triggerfish at the bridge! This one was not full grown, but it was still a beauty. And, I got a real kick out of the Atlantic Longarm Octopus playing hide and seek with me. Remember, you can click on an image to view it full screen.
