Face down in Blackwater Sound.

That is how we spent a good portion of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in pursuit of tiny critters. We had perfect conditions for dorkeling (diving at snorkel depths) at Rowell’s Park in Key Largo and we found lots of slugs, snails, small fish and more. But, the cutest finds were the Dwarf Seahorses. We found some on every dive. At just over an inch tall, they are difficult to spot, but worth the effort.

Among the other critters we spotted were hermit crabs (3 species), slugs (7 species), headshield slugs (2 species), snails (8 species), isopods (3 species), tube worms, anemones, flatworms and lots of fish. Here are a few of my favorites. Remember, you can click on an image to view it full screen and to see more information.

Many of the critters we find are very, very small. Here are a few example of just how small that is. The point on my silver muck stick is 1/8” across.
