We need to do this more often!
That is what I say every year after our first black water dive. Then life gets in the way and we only manage one more dive. This year we plan to fix that. We did black water dive #2 this week and I have already booked #3. With 45 years of diving under my belt, black water is still the most amazing thing I have ever done. Spending time in this magical, alien world is mind-blowing and very addicting. The photo at left, my favorite from this week, is a larval Slipper Lobster clinging to a Hydromedusa (jellyfish), a Siphonophore and, what I think is a comb jelly or another siphonophore. Several amphipods are riding on the Hydromedusa. In real life the entire image takes up a space slightly smaller than a half dollar.
Here are a few more photos from this week’s black water dive. The largest of these are dime sized. Most are smaller. Remember you can click on an imge to view it full screen and to see more
We also dove Blue Heron Bridge this week. It is too hot to do anything not involving water immersion. Here are a few of my favorites from under the bridge.
