Elephants!
This week took us from New Jersey, through Pennsylvania and on to West Virginia, with lots of elephants along the way.
Before we left NJ, we visited the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham Hindu temple in Robbinsville. This is the largest Hindu temple in the US (and the second largest in the world). When it was being built the company Carl worked for supplied some of the materials. He got a bit of a tour when he visited the site for work and has wanted to go back ever since. Unfortunately, were not able to tour the inside because they have a strict dress code and Carl was wearing shorts (a no no), but the areas we could visit were impressive. According to their web site, 12,500 volunteers from across the US dedicated millions of hours to construct the temple. The entire structure is made out of marble and all of the marble is hand carved, including this elephant. For more about the temple, click here.

Our next stop was Caledonia State Park in Fayetteville PA. When we pulled in we realized we had been there before. Then we remembered the hummingbirds. We had lots of fun both last time and this photographing them outside the visitor’s center. Our last stay was short, so we missed the elephants. But this time we got to visit Mr. Ed’s Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium. Well worth our time on so many levels. Thousands of elephants, lovely grounds (and more elephants) and candy, lots and lots of candy. If you are ever in the area, don’t miss it.
Lunar eclipse over Summersville Lighthouse.
The end of the week brought us back to one of our favorite campgrounds - Summersville Lake Retreat and Lighthouse. Although we have not yet found any elephants, we were just in time for the lunar eclipse.
