Back to Barnegat Bay!
It has been a while since we spent time snorkeling in Barnegat Bay. As part of this year’s camping adventure we included a week in a VRBO near Island Beach State Park so that we could get back to our old aquatic stomping grounds. Like almost every other underwater environment, the bay has changed over the intervening years. Less eel grass, less critters, but still fun to explore. I have been snorkeling there, on and off, for more than 50 years and I still managed to see new things.
Conditions were not the best (the water was kind of hazy) so the photos are not as crisp as I would like. They still give a good overview of what life is like beneath the surface. The little eel (the size of my pinky finger - that is as far as he would come out) and the mud shrimp (1” - 2”) were both new to me. The seahorse picture is proof of life. He was really tucked in.

I took some time off from snorkeling to meet up with my life long friend, Karen. We met at Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown. She brought along two of my Facebook friends (friends of hers who I met on line while doing Alphabet Photo Challenge during Covid). It was so much fun to actually meet these two ladies and to chat in person while wandering the gardens and later over dinner. While I hate many aspects of Facebook, this is one reason I stick with it. I have had the chance to connect with so many wonderful people I would never have “met” otherwise.
