I took two photos this week . . .
that thrilled me to death. This is the second one. It is a common ordinary everyday Rock Pigeon (Columba livia). I thought it looked totally awesome as it flew straight at me a Indian Riverside Park (Jensen Beach). It may be just a pigeon, but in this shot, it is soaring like an eagle!
This is the first one. It is a larval African Pompano (Alectis ciliaris). The fish itself is smaller than a dime. The fins extended a good 6-8 inches. Although not exceptionally rare, this is the first one I have seen while black water diving (off Pompano Beach, Florida). It made my night. They can grow to 60” and are not nearly as interesting as adults. If you are curious to see what an adult looks like, click here.
While we spent most of our outdoor time in and under the water, we also fit in a bit of birding. Here are a few more of my favorites from this week around the ‘hood. The first four are from our black water dive off Palm Beach , Fl; the last five were taken at Indian Riverside Park, Jensen Beach, FL. Remember, click on an image to view it full screen.
For those who like the black water statistics, we drifted 5.42 miles starting over 730 feet of water and ending at a depth of 613 feet.
