The Perfect Mother’s Day Story!

We were at Peaceful Waters (Wellington, Florida) with our friend Will, doing a bit of bird watching. We had all seen the Sandhill Crane family on the soccer field when we arrived. On our way out along the berm, we saw mom and dad Sandy, but not junior. We crossed over to the boardwalk with two other birders and a little way down towards the exit, we ran into the Sandhill colt. Apparently he/she went right when the parents went left. Junior was way down the boardwalk, very far from where we had seen the parents. Along with the other birders, we encouraged junior to head back to the entrance while Will backtracked to see if he could coax the parents in the same direction. The colt plodded along with us, slowly but determined. Will did not see the parents, but as we rounded the bend at the exit, there they were. The family was reunited and graciously posed for some pictures. A wonderful experience all around. Happy Mother’s Day!

We spent the first part of the week diving at Sunset House on Grand Cayman. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. To view my favorite photos from our week of diving, click here.
