Wet, wild and wonderful.

Photo at left: Gazing upstream at the Rainbow River

That is the Rainbow River. We spent most of this week at Rainbow River State Park Campground. It provides direct access to the river. During the week it is pretty quiet, so we took full advantage. On Thursday and Friday we paddled up river then drifted back snorkeling all the way. There were tons of fish, a few turtles and, the stars of the show, two fishing Cormorants. On Saturday, when things got a little more crazy, we grabbed our floating chairs (and fins for a little propulsion) and drifted downstream. We passed a couple of alligators, tons of birds and got to watch an Anhinga catch two sunfish. We got out at the tubing exit and took the shuttle back to the campground.

Here are a few of the critters we encountered during our stay. I photographed the Great Egret from the water while snorkeling past. Remember, you can click on an image to view it full screen.
