Sometimes it’s the little things . . .
. . . that make you smile the most. I discovered this little guy (< 1/2”) while cleaning out the bird bath. He was striding along the edge like he was really going somewhere. He is an Oak Treehopper (Platycotis vittata). Apparently they are very common wherever there are Oak trees (the bird bath is under an Oak). That said, this is the first one I have ever seen. I guess they go unnoticed because of their size. Between the bright markings, fuzzy legs and red cheeks I found him absolutely adorable. By the way, I thought the color in the photo was a bit off. It turns out they really are a little bluish.
