The usual suspects . . .

. . . kept us amused during our outings this week. From my personal favorite, the Green Heron, to smaller regulars like this Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, the birds we saw this week were common, but not ordinary. We got a real kick out of the Red-shouldered Hawk, who was sitting atop the Purple Martin house pole when we first saw him. Unfortunately for him the Purple Martins have not yet returned to Riverbend Park, but I admired his technique and his optimism.

Fun Fact: Despite its name, the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher does not eat a lot of gnats. (from AllAboutBirds.org)

A few more pictures from this week around the hood. Remember, click on an image to view it full screen.

For those who are interested, it was 34 degrees outside when I woke up this morning and the birdbath was frozen. Yup, I am still in south Florida.
